Social on the Veranda are a four-piece indie rock band from the South-Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. After the recent success of winning this year’s Battle of the Sounds gig in Narre Warren, the boys have recorded and released their debut single “Run Around”. From the opening chords and drum beat, you can tell that there are strong influences on the sound of many modern UK Indie bands here. However, the talent, maturity and effortless conviction of this young local band is absolutely astonishing especially for a first single. Vocalist and guitarist Conor has a raspy vocal delivery and sounds much older than his youth would suggest. The music video filmed in black and white features a mixture of live gig footage and the boys wandering the streets of Melbourne, which echoes the lyrical content quite well.

My only concern is the apparent lack of originality and whether this band can stand out from the many indie-rock bands already out there. Only time will tell but so far I’m really impressed.
