"Twisting in the agony of everything that’s yet to be, I wonder if I’ll make it in the end"

Newcastle’s Jones The Cat have released a song that is fast pace, strong and catchy – a prime example of the amazing music coming out of Newcastle lately. Their single, 'Bitter Prick', was captivating from the first moment.

Opening with a chirpy and uplifting guitar riff, the band sets high energy of what is to come later on in the song. With the first verse featuring an extremely catchy stop/start rhythm, the atmosphere is continually strong, and well structured.

The vocals in this song suit the genre perfectly – with a hint of an Australian accent present throughout the entire song, a relaxed, but moving, tone is noticeable. The lyrics throughout, although are somewhat dark, are sung in such a positive way that it makes what could have easily been a down and depressing song, catchy and uplifting.

Overall, this song, and this band, is a prime example of how Newcastle is working its way to hold the title for one of the greatest regions for punk music these days (not that the council seems to care). Jones the Cat are one of the stronger bands in the scene, and if you sleep on them, you’re sure to miss out – and this song shows exactly why.
