‘I’m not scared of the dark I’m scared of myself’

Billy Puntton is a name that many in the local Aussie music scene would have heard of through the grapevine. Hailing from Coffs Harbour Billy has been in and around the music scene for some time now. If his not playing bass in the Pop Punk band Speakeasy or throwing down some break downs in Totalitarian his smacking you in the face with his raw, emotional Acoustic Folk Punk.

Recorded in his housemates bedroom, bathroom and garage Bleach is the first single released from the Debut EP Dopamine, and it’s raw, emotional and unforgiving. A simple song, consisting of just vocals and guitar with some sneaky gang vocals thrown in at the end, Billy manages to capture a sense of pain and suffering but also personal realization to his own metal state. The song begins with open chords, ringing out and then Billy’s angst ridden vocals come in over fast paced power chords and doesn’t let up from there. Billy’s vocals remind me of a mix of Tom DeLonge (Blink 182) and Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day) and really lifts the track and keeps the listener intrigued and wanting more. The lyrics are relatable and will hit home with many people who also suffer from some sort of Mental health issue. The realization that the real thing you are afraid of is yourself, is a frightening thing, but also a mature take and Billy lets us know where his mind state is at, something that makes this track so much more enjoyable and relatable.

Overall Billy’s first single is a home run. The raw emotion of the song alone should have it on rotation on everyone’s playlist and I can’t wait to see what the bright future holds for Billy.
