Song: Hearts of Stone Band: Botchling Album: Cursed Ones Location: Queensland, Australia Date of release: April 28th, 2017 Genre: Progressive Metalcore Reviewer: Brendan Bennell For Fans Of: Polaris, Shokran, In Hearts Wake, Make Them Suffer, After The Burial

From their Upcoming EP, ‘Cursed Ones’, Heart Of Stone shows a fa more melodic side to the bands sound following their 2016 single, ‘No Mans Land’.

The oriental sounding intro sets the feel straight away, kicking right into a head banger of a riff. The little guitar runs fit between the chugs paired with the kick drum pattern make it such a solid first verse.

The piano introduced in the pre chorus, similar to that of make the suffer, make a real nice addition the over all chorus section. The chorus with it’s lead and chord progression show that the band have feel, proper feel, it’s always refreshing to hear. This track features really strong vocals from Jake Kennedy and Terrence Kilner, a featuring vocalist. There was an array of different techniques that made it much more enjoyable to listen to.

I dig the simple ambient effects/samples throughout the song, they assist in making certain sections sound so much bigger and better but still keeping it as heavy as ever. This was a super strong track, I’m keen to see where the EP is going to go from here, wether they’ll continue this sound or mix it up.
