Song: A Colour I’m Blind To Band: Ebonivory Album: A Colour I’m Blind To (Single) Location: Ballarat, Victoria. Date of release: 01/09/17 Genre: Heavy Progressive Rock Reviewer: Michael Dixon For Fans Of: Karnivool, Periphery, Animals As Leaders
Ebonivory was originally a solo project by Charlie Powlett but over the last couple of years, it has evolved into a full band. This year, there have been some significant line-up changes including Connor McMillan (ex-Winfield) on bass, Aidan Simpson (Against Our Pride and Wild Eyes Like Fireflies) on guitar and David Parkes (Against Our Pride and Altered Minds) on drums. Over the past few months, Charlie has released interviews on YouTube with each of these individuals, highlighting both their talents and their entertaining personalities.
The new single “A Colour I’m Blind To” contains a mixture of heavy prog rock and softer melodic sections. Charlie's vocals are as powerful and angelic as ever. And the old and new band members really add a stronger, more organic edge to their sound. The music video features the fresh line-up in all their glory with strobe lighting and shades of blue and pink flooding through the screen. Whether Ebonivory decide to return to the stage as a live band or remain a studio project remains to be seen. Either way, I’m very excited to hear what else is in store for them.
