Lavidius // Helisma // Album Review
Band: Lavidius Record: Helisma Location: Brisbane Date of release: 1st of September Genre: Metal, Rlly good Aus metal, shreds for days Reviewer: Byron Hall For Fans Of: Born of Osiris, Tool
Ohhhh lordy, so get this right. I downloaded "Helisma" for my train trip. I figured it would be the best way to take in the new Lavidius album. Some how my earphones became unplugged and the whole G carriage was blessed with the title track 'cold and Alone' they seemed to give me displeasing looks. Fuck 'em this track is off tap! It's like Born of Osiris meets psychedelics. I don't know what it is but fuck these riffs are tasty!
Track 3 'Final Moments Rest' is a track that I can see being huge everyone will be chanting it in the coming weeks. It has your real dark vibes but when the chorus kicks in it almost becomes a different song. I could only compare it those melodic metal hooks of a Tool song, you know open your third eye for once knew your life Linda!
Halfway through the record and every song still feels very unique, you can see loads of different influences paired with very interesting samples and effects! I love the whining guitars in track 4. It just sounds like a whole lotta fun to play. The guitar solo over the eloquent drum fills is just killer!
The screams and growls on 'Hand of Carmenta' were juss so brutal i could've started windmilling and desperately wanted to start a circle pit in the xpt. I kept my feet tapping froffed this so damn hard!
'Helisma' it's the 7th track. Honestly I didn't think this could get any better, there's just so much organised chaos that it all fits. The song goes from a very Bring Me The Horizon feel into a little bit of acoustic work back to the brutality of hard hitting bass drum combos and the howl of the string sticks! Seriously do yourself a favor, just go and grab yourself a copy!
I really couldn't pick anything wrong with this record, it's the tightest thing I've heard by these boys and would love to see them real soon! Keep an eye out for which of their tracks will be in THE FAT MIX #3 Ideally I'd have them all.
