“Slipping”, is Marina’s first official song release. This artist had a story to tell and I believe she succeeded in expressing it. Listening to this track you can see how Marina likes to experiment with the tone of her voice and harmonies. Unfortunately, this sometimes resulted in her phrases to waver and sound a little pitchy. I feel the guitar is slightly to strong in the mix and this unintentionally leads to a cool bass riff being swallowed up in the process. The drums that feature on the track were exciting to hear and added flavour to the song.

However, at times the tempo was not consistent in certain parts, and noticeably sped-up. I personally feel that this decision if deliberate interfered with the flow of the piece. The lyrics do inform the audience and Marina makes it is easy for the people listening to understand her emotional connection to the what she is talking about. This song isn’t creative in the progressive sense nor does it have to be, I strongly feel Marina wasn’t aiming for that. Instead, I see this song being played around campfires and other similar environments.

Some people will definitely enjoy Marina’s in your face tell it how it is vibe as it’s honest and you gotta respect that.
