Behind Crimson Eyes played a pivotal part in the Australian Hardcore movement in the early 00’s. So when the band surprised everyone by teased new music after almost 8 years, fans where sent in to a whirl.
What came from this was ‘Stardust’, a blistering combination of familiar territory and unexplored horizons of new sounds. Having been so long in between releases and a wave of changes as far as international and national heavy music trends, BCE have done well to put themselves back into the scene.
The song kicks into gear right from the get go. The vocals come barrelling at you and the instrumentals come packing in shortly after. Although the mix isn’t superb, every element is balanced well.
A combination of their Hardcore roots with a strong Metalcore influenced breakdown and Melodic, sing-a-long chorus, Stardust has elements that will appeal to various genres and fans. Could this diversion make it hard for long time fans to digest and adjust to? Possibly, but BCE are showing no signs of sticking to the norm and are choosing to evolve, which may just send them to the stars after all. It will be interesting to see where it all goes from here.
