‘The way things used to be, before the Innocence was lost’
NJE is one of the hardest working artist in the Aussie Hip Hop scene. For those unfamiliar with him, he currently hails from Sydney (moving to Brissy shortly). His roots are from NZ and the chilled vibe he has really showcases his roots and the way he oozes positivity. He has also been on some really big bills as well played with Xhibit and my favourites Bliss n Eso plus many, many more.
NJE has been working hard for the better part of 10 years on his music and it shows in the new single ‘Innocence Lost’. NJE is a very positive artist and that reflects a lot in his music, which is why I connect with it so much. I’m big on reflecting what life has offered so far and also looking at what is too come, something NJE’s new track is all about.
The track begins with some real nice vocal work by Joseph, his smooth voice fits perfectly with the chill vibe also adding just that little bit of extra flavour throughout. NJE comes in on the verses, his lyrics are always easily relatable and his flow runs smooth through the whole track. The lyrics really are about looking back on ‘the way things used to be’ and what’s changed in life. You won’t find the clichés that some Hip Hop artist rely on in their lyrics, you’ll find honesty and a grown up attitude towards life and what it is.
The production and beat on the track is great. It’s really chilled but keeps the head nodding along nicely. It’s no doubt that NJE has perfected his sound and this track really encapsulates what he is all about, and I’m a big fan.
Overall, I really like the track, the message and the way it comes across and I know NJE will keep doing what he loves doing, making his listeners smile.
