‘Rip the ceiling out of this narrow cage I need my air’

This track is the first I’ve heard of Halcyon Drive and the vocals had me instantly taking note along with the chilled relaxed vibe of the song.

It begins with some nice vocals over some soft electronic production. The drums kick in mid-way through the first verse and I found my foot tapping along to the chilled vibe of the track. The vocalist has a nice voice, it’s smooth, relaxed and has a nice range and really shines when the chorus comes in. The track builds nicely, adding in layer after layer, ebbing and flowing with some really nice production. I love the little breakdown in the middle of the track the production is tight and the little riff adds in some nice flavour.

The track ends as it begins, with the vocalist on his own and left me with a sense of wanting to hear more from the lads. They lyrics are also quite descriptive, telling the tale of losing a loved one – the whole bird metaphor actually works really well and at first I thought it was going to be pretty cheesy but it actually is the opposite and sets a really nice scene.

Although this style of music isn’t really the style I would go to on a regular basis, I actually really enjoyed this track. It is a great Summer track, I can see people chilling back on the beach having a couple of sneaky beers whilst enjoying their time in the Sun with mates.

Overall I would recommend giving this song a spin, I can see it being a pretty decent hit with fans of the genre and style that the lads have. It’s well produced. well written and an enjoyable little Summer hit.
