The Paddy Cakes newest tracks ‘Never Tell’ and ‘Tongue Tied’ hit Unearthed this year and are absolute killer. This is the first taste of the Melbourne Indie Rock band and carves a promising path for the new comers to the scene
Stumbling upon the small ensemble, I found myself pumping their golden track ‘Never Tell’ over and over again. This sun-drenched tune has the structure any Two Door Cinema Club fan will embrace with open arms. The familiar composition makes their star track a laid-back tune. The keen drum beats, intertwined with melodic lyrics add a hint of warm familiarity that comes with all good indie music. Oakley Kerr, the lead guitarist very much ties in all the elements with his dreamy guitar solo, creating the vitality that I think, makes this song. The second verse of this balmy tune somehow has a completely different atmosphere from the first; the cleaner high note at the bridge adds a new layer of liveliness to the song. This single is an easy-going listen, and the perfect inauguration to the four-piece.
The most recent release, ‘Tongue Tied’ is the perfect follow up track, splashing us with more complexity. The boys take a riskier move, developing a promising tone. The texture of the sandy guitar and Dalton Tripodi’s fresh vocals create a much differing mood from ‘Never Tell’. One thing is certain… The Paddy Cakes have a signature knack for immaculate, sticky choruses that are infectious almost to a fault; bringing back old school indie vibes and I, personally, am living for it.
Best of luck to this humble bunch, you can check their new stuff out on all decent streaming services, also be sure to stalk their Instagram to see them all, naked on bicycles (you're welcome)
