"I wanna know her like you, I wanna be that cool, I wanna be that"

Sophie Allison - better known as Soccer Mommy - has dropped a dreamy debut studio album. Self described as “chill but kinda sad”, the album is centred around ideas of growth from a rather self-examining and angsty lens. It’s guitar-driven indie rooted in pop riffs and hooks, making it an addictive listen and a sure hit with fans of mainstream alternative.

The two standout tracks for me were 'Cool' and 'Your Dog'. 'Cool' is filled with teenage enigma, a solid indie rock track but 'Your Dog' was the standout track for me. The layers of guitar are addictive, making it a solid radio worthy single. I got strong Dope Lemon vibes from this one, it’s really well done.

'Still Clean' and 'Blossom' are quiet, reflective tracks that make interesting use of swelling ambience as a way of conveying an emotional climax followed by an abrupt ending. 'Last Girl' is much more grassroots influenced, and 'Skin' is great if you’re looking for an uplifting crowd pleaser.

My second favourite thing about the album would have to be the cohesiveness of the opening and closing tracks 'Still Clean' and 'Wildflowers' - the cameo of the guitar motif makes the ending feel cathartic, like a wholesome new beginning.

Overall, Clean is a really nostalgic listen. It’s hard to believe the album came out in 2018, it’s character is from a previous decade. The skill taken to write an album of this calibre solo is an incredible feat and I enjoyed everywhere this album took me.
