“You cut out your heart, and dance on your own”

Melbourne band Fool Child have dropped a dreamy new single with a unique take on Indie Folk. I came across ‘Dance on Your Own’ on Triple J Unearthed and it was love at first sight. It captured me as sweet and mellow, yet left a lingering feeling of nostalgia. I can see this playing as the sun sets on a beach, looking back on a warm memory.

The vocals blend in well and are subtle and whispy, the guitar riff is bluesy and quite catchy. It contributes to an overall relaxed track. The combination of toms and snares is super pleasant and well balanced. I loved the vocal harmonies and the subtle mellow synths are well chosen, they stuck in my memory and set it apart from the usual run-of-the-mill chill/indie composition. If Mumford & Sons were to ever tone it down a bit, I can imagine this is what they’d sound like. Definitely keep an eye out for these guys, they’ve got an awesome sound.

Overall: 73/100

Personal Enjoyment: 8/10
